Challenge:
The Maryland Department of Health’s “GoVAX” campaign was launched in January 2021 to urge Marylanders from all walks of life to get Covid vaccinations to curb the spread of the Covid 19 virus. “One particular area of focus … will be tackling the initial vaccine hesitancy that we see in minority populations and underserved communities that have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic,” said Governor Larry Hogan.
Solution:
GKV, the agency of record for MDH, crafted a culturally sensitive campaign featuring trusted figures in minority communities — doctors, pastors, community leaders, local celebrities and first responders, and tasked REJ with carrying out broadcast and internet video production. REJ produced, shot and edited :30 TV and radio spots to encourage all Marylanders to protect themselves, their families and communities by getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as they become eligible. This series of public service announcements features first responders, health care workers, and community leaders talking about the benefits of the vaccine and why EVERYONE should get vaccinated.
